Sub-250g
Drones weighing under 250 grams, a weight class that carries lighter registration rules in a number of countries.
Sub-250g refers to drones that weigh less than 250 grams including the battery. That threshold matters because several countries treat drones under this weight differently from heavier ones for registration and, in some cases, for where they can be flown, though the specific rules and exceptions vary by country and change over time.
Building or buying a genuinely capable sub-250g quad usually means using lighter frames, smaller batteries, and compact components throughout, since every gram from the camera, VTX, and frame counts toward the total. Some sub-250g drones sacrifice a little raw power or flight time compared to larger quads to stay under the limit.
Because rules differ by country and can change, pilots should check current regulations for where they actually plan to fly rather than assuming a sub-250g label alone removes every restriction. A drone under 250 grams can still be subject to airspace, privacy, or local flying rules that have nothing to do with weight.
