KV rating
A motor rating showing how many RPM the motor spins per volt with no load, which affects speed, power, and propeller choice.
KV rating describes how fast a brushless motor spins for each volt applied, measured in unloaded RPM per volt. A 2400KV motor run on a 4S battery will spin considerably faster with no load than the same motor on 3S, though the actual RPM under load with a propeller attached is always lower than this theoretical number.
Motor KV needs to be matched to both the battery's cell count and the propeller size being used. Lower KV motors paired with larger propellers suit efficient, longer-range flying, while higher KV motors paired with smaller, lighter propellers suit fast, punchy freestyle and racing setups where quick acceleration matters more than endurance.
A common mistake is choosing a high KV motor and a large propeller together, which can overload the motor and ESC by asking for far more current than they are rated to handle. Manufacturer charts pairing recommended propeller sizes with each KV rating are a more reliable starting point than guessing.
