Frame size

Frame size describes the physical scale of a quad, most often referred to by the propeller size it is built around, such as 3 inch, 5 inch, or 7 inch. A 5 inch frame is the most common size for freestyle and racing, offering a practical balance of power, agility, and flight time.

Smaller frames like 3 inch builds are lighter, more portable, and often quieter, which suits flying in tighter spaces, while larger frames such as 7 inch builds carry bigger batteries and props for longer flight times and smoother, more stable flight, at the cost of extra size and weight to transport.

Frame size also drives every other component choice, since motors, propellers, and even the flight controller stack size need to fit and match the frame's intended power range. Picking a frame size before other parts, rather than the other way around, is the more reliable order for planning a first build.
