VTX

The VTX, or video transmitter, takes the signal from the FPV camera and broadcasts it over radio frequency so the pilot's goggles or monitor can display it in real time. It is a separate component from the radio system that controls the drone, operating on its own frequency band.

VTX output power, usually measured in milliwatts, affects range and also what is legally permitted in a given country, so pilots need to check local limits rather than assuming higher power is always allowed. Analog VTX systems are simple and cheap, while digital systems trade some latency and cost for a noticeably sharper picture at the goggles.

A frequent point of confusion for beginners is mixing analog and digital equipment and expecting it to work together, when in fact goggles, VTX, and camera all need to belong to the same video system. Overheating is another common issue, since higher-power VTX modules can get hot enough to affect nearby components if airflow around them is poor.
