Betaflight
A widely used open-source flight controller firmware that runs the stabilization, tuning, and configuration on most FPV drones.
Betaflight is the firmware most freestyle and racing flight controllers run. It handles reading the gyroscope, applying pilot input from the receiver, and sending correction commands to the ESCs, all configurable through a desktop configurator connected to the drone over USB.
Within Betaflight, pilots adjust settings like rates, which control how aggressively the drone responds to stick movement, and PID tuning, which affects how tightly the drone holds a commanded attitude versus how smoothly it flies. Firmware updates are released regularly and can add support for new hardware or flight modes.
New pilots sometimes assume the firmware needs heavy manual tuning before a drone is flyable, when in fact most modern flight controllers ship with sensible default tunes that fly reasonably well out of the box. It is more common for early problems to come from wiring or setup mistakes in the configurator, such as an unset receiver protocol, than from the default tune itself.
